The August Sander Award was offered for the first time in 2018 by the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, endowed by Ulla Bartenbach and Prof. Dr. Kurt Bartenbach. The prize is designed to promote young, contemporary artistic approaches to objective and conceptual photography. In honor of Sander’s seminal contribution to portrait photography, the photographic works by the applicants should primarily revolve around the theme of the human portrait. The prize is awarded every two years.
Eligible are artists from Germany and abroad up to and including the age of 40 with a focus on photography. The award is endowed with 5,000 €.
Next August Sander Award in 2024.
